Just days before 2023, Pusha T announced that he’d be teaming up with DJ Drama for his own Gangsta Grillz mixtape. The project, he recently explained, gives him an opportunity to be part of the mixtape culture he loves.

“Man. I just feel like to me, the Gangsta Grillz and the whole mixtape culture and scene is what I’m about. That’s the purest form of hip-hop to me,” Pusha told Complex of his desire to have a Gangsta Grillz project. “So it’s like the fact that Drama is having so much success, the fact that that’s what I love in hip-hop. I want to merge those worlds and see what happens.”

“I’m going to be honest with you, seeing Drama’s mixtape with Tyler [the Creator] and how they won a Grammy, I was like, man, mixtapes really won a Grammy,” he continued. “So I’m trying to be a part of that culture, as well.”

Pusha’s upcoming mixtape may possibly be his next project following the release of last year’s It’s Almost Dry. The project debuted at #1 and is nominated for a Grammy, but the rapper’s used to the pressure for him to deliver. “Daytona was before It’s Almost Dry, right? I think we are seeing a little pattern here,” he said. “Rap album of the year every year. Anytime I drop.”

As for whether he and brother No Malice will ever bring The Clipse back, he says he doesn’t know.

“I’m not sure, but I’m pressing it. I’m pressing it,” he said. “A lot of people think that I don’t be pressing the issue. But I really do.”
