Queen Latifah hosting the 2018 ‘Black Girls Rock’ Awards

BETQueen Latifah is returning to her hometown of Newark, New Jersey, to host this year’s Black Girls Rock Awards

“Queen Latifah is the epitome of black excellence, hip-hop royalty, and black girl magic!” says the founder and creator of Black Girls RockBeverly Bond.

“She has been a longtime supporter of Black Girls Rock and has been honored at both our televised and pre-televised shows,” Bond continues. “I’m so thrilled to welcome her back to the Black Girls Rock stage as host.”

Latifah shared a behind-the-scenes video on Instagram of herself taping a promo for the show, which ends with her saying, “It’s a royal night of Black Girl excellence.”

Black Girls Rock will be taped Sunday, August 26 at the New Jersey Performing Arts Center, and will air Sunday, September 9 at 8 p.m.

Last year, Taraji P. Henson hosted the annual tribute to black female achievement. The honorees included Issa RaeRoberta Flack, and California congresswoman Maxine Waters, and the show featured performances by SZATyreseLedisiIndia.ArieAnthony Hamilton, and Tasha Cobbs Leonard.

The Black Girls Rock organization is dedicated to empowering women through leadership, education, and positive identity development programs
