Getty Images via ABCQuestlove is firing back at Bill O’Reilly for his recent remarks on slavery, in which the Fox News host commented that slaves who worked in the White House “were well-fed and had decent lodgings provided by the government.”

The Roots drummer wrote in part on Instagram, “I dunno if that man’s (never say his name) point is to troll at any cost whatsoever but his entire existence is…five steps backwards for any progress made in humanity.”

O’Reilly’s controversial commentary came in response to Michelle Obama‘s Democratic National Convention speech on Monday, during which the first lady spoke about the progress America has made, saying, “I wake up every morning in a house that was built by slaves, and I watch my daughters, two beautiful, intelligent, black young women, playing with their dogs on the White House lawn.”

Quest continued, “But there is nothing more dangerous than a man in a suit pretending to be a journalist giving revisionist history on the ugliness that was slavery. What’s so fun and lighthearted about being shackled? Being separated from your loved ones? Being molested and raped HOURLY, being branded with hot iron?…watch where you get your information from and the company you keep people.”

After feeling the backlash, O’Reilly responded on Twitter, writing, “Far left loons distort tip about @FLOTUS statement that slaves built White House. She’s correct & I provided facts.” Later on his show, O’Reilly denounced “far-left media deceivers,” explaining that his commentary was “one hundred percent accurate” and “provided context to Mrs. Obama’s remarks.”
