R. Kelly accused of sexual battery and false imprisonment in new lawsuit

by

Rick Kern/WireImageR. Kelly is being sued by a woman in a New York City court for alleged sexual battery, false imprisonment and failure to disclose a sexually transmitted disease, according to documents obtained by The New York Times.

Faith A. Rodgers claims in the lawsuit that she was 19 when she met the singer, 51, after a performance in San Antonio in March 2017, and engaged in several weeks of phone conversations before he arranged for her to fly to New York. It was there he allegedly “initiated unwanted sexual contact” in a hotel room, including “non-consensual oral and vaginal intercourse.”

The suit goes on to claim that Kelly did not tell Rodgers, now 20, that he was infected with herpes — a criminal act — and she contracted the disease.

Rodgers claims she carried on a year-long relationship with Kelly, during which he “routinely engaged in intimidation, mental, verbal and sexual abuse, during and after sexual contact.” According to the complaint, it was “behavior designed to humiliate, embarrass, intimate and shame her.” Rodgers also alleges that Kelly regularly recorded her without her consent during sex, and often kept her locked in secluded areas to punish and control her.

Lydia C. Hills, a lawyer for Rodgers, said her client was the same woman who filed a criminal complaint as Jane Doe in Dallas last month, alleging that Kelly had “knowingly and intentionally” given her herpes there, according to The Times. Representatives for Kelly said in April that he “categorically denies all claims and allegations.”

The lawsuit seeks unspecified damages.
