R. Kelly charged with 11 new counts of sex assault and sex abuse

The R&B singer was charged with 11 new counts of sex assault and sex abuse for actions allegedly taking place in January 2010. 

Four of the new charges accuse Kelly of felony aggravated criminal sexual assault, which carries a sentence of six to 30 years in prison on conviction, according to the Chicago Tribune..

Three of the new counts charge Kelly with sexually abusing a victim between the ages of 13 and 16.

Steven Greenberg, Kelly’s criminal defense attorney, tells ABC News of the new charges, “It’s a reindictment on one of the cases, adding some additional counts.”

The 52-year old singer is due back on court next Thursday, June 6.

The 11 new charges are in addition to 10 counts of aggravated sexual abuse involving four women which were filed against Kelly in February.
