R. Kelly made it clear this week that he expected more support for his project, The Buffet. Although the album sold just 36,000 copies in his first week, the set debuted atop Billboard‘s R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart.

According to the publication, Kelly’s entry is his 12th topper on the chart and allows him to maintain his position as the solo act with the second-most chart leaders — Jay Z holds the record of 13 number ones. The last time Kelly topped the list was when Untitled debuted at number one back in 2009.

In addition, Kelz’ single “Wake Up Everybody” hops from number 21 to number 18 on the Adult R&B Songs chart, the singer 34th top-20 entry on the chart. The veteran holds the record for most top-20s. Mary J. Blige follows closely behind with 30 top-20 hits.

In other R. Kelly news, the singer will celebrate New Year’s Eve at Detroit’s Fox Theatre, tickets are available now.
