Mark Hill/HBORegina King appears as superhero Sister Knight in the new HBO series Watchmen, and the Academy Award-winner is thrilled with her fantasy role.

King portrays Tulsa, Oklahoma police detective Angela Abar, who moonlights as Sister Knight, a costumed vigilante who fights against a white supremacist group.

The Boyz n the Hood star says she was amazed when she read the script and saw a drawing of her costume.

“So I open the envelope and it was an artist rendering of me in the costume. I got chills,” the 48-year old actress tells Entertainment Tonight. “I think I got a little teary-eyed.”

“Just was like, ‘Wow. I wait ’til I’m almost 50 to be a superhero,’” King adds. “Hey, I’m not gonna question the universe.”

Watchmen, which is based on the 1980s DC Comics series, also features Louis Gossett Jr. It premieres Sunday at 9 p.m. on HBO.  It was conceived as a sequel to the original story, which was made into a movie in 2009.
