Beyonce can’t seem to escape the controversy surrounding her Black Panther-inspired set at the Super Bowl 50 earlier this month.

According to TMZ, the New York Police Department wants the singer to issue an apology and publicly explain her intentions behind her performance, which some believe was anti-police.  That’s led to calls from police unions in Miami and Tampa to boycott her upcoming shows there.

Sources tell the gossip site that despite their request, the NYPD will fully protect the 34-year-old superstar when she’s in NYC.

The news comes after her Super Bowl appearance angered former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani and others, who planned an anti-Beyonce rally outside the NFL headquarters in Manhattan last week, which ultimately was largely unattended by protestors.
