Kevin Winter/Getty ImagesThe Minneapolis Star Tribune is reporting that a meeting was set between Prince and a specialist in drug addiction the day before his death on April 21.
According to the unconfirmed report, on April 20 representatives for Prince reached out to Dr. Howard Kornfeld, who runs Recovery Without Walls in Mill Valley, California, in an attempt to deal with what an attorney for the Kornfeld family says was described as “a grave medical emergency.”
The Californian doctor was called to meet with the singer the next day, but could not clear his schedule. Instead, Kornfeld sent his son, Andrew Kornfeld, to Minnesota to explain how the confidential treatment would work, the Star Tribune says.
“The plan was to quickly evaluate his health and devise a treatment plan,” William Mauzy, a Minneapolis attorney working with the Kornfeld family, told the paper. “… The doctor was planning on a lifesaving mission.”
When Andrew arrived at Paisley Park on Thursday, the staff could not immediately locate the singer and it is said that Kornfeld was one of three people to find the musician’s body in an elevator a few minutes later — with Andrew reportedly the one calling 911.
Although toxicology tests are still pending, sources tell the Star Tribune that Prince’s use of painkillers, which were found at the scene, is the primary focus of the investigation.
