Rihanna seemingly had good intentions to get involved in the #BlackLivesMatter movement, but she apparently was shut down after attempting to participate in the Baltimore protests.

According to a series of police emails released to The Baltimore Sun, the singer not only planned on attending the protests, but she was looking to perform. However, internal emails reveal that the Baltimore Police Department prohibited her “possible concert at Penn & North” because she did not have a permit.  Rih’s reps had even planned on the singer “traveling to the city by train (or by car if necessary)” to divert media attention.

Protests roiled the city in April and May following the death of a man, Freddie Gray, in police custody. Six officers are facing criminal charges in connection with Gray’s death.

Ultimately, Prince performed new music inspired by the chain of events during a show at the Royal Farms Arena on May 10.
