Roddy Ricch & The Weeknd lead the 2020 American Music Awards with eight nominations

Prince Williams/WireimageRoddy Ricch and The Weeknd lead with eight nominations each for the 2020 American Music Awards, a few of which pop star Dua Lipa revealed Monday on ABC’s Good Morning America.

Roddy is up for Artist of the Year, along with Post Malone, Taylor Swift and The Weeknd, the latter of whom is also nominated for Favorite Male Artist in the Soul/R&B category, as well as in the Soul/R&B Favorite Song and Favorite Album categories. 

Compton rapper Roddy is also up for New Artist of the Year, against Lil Baby, Megan Thee Stallion,Doja Cat and Roddy’s “Rockstar” collaborator, DaBaby.

“Rockstar” also gained DaBaby and Roddy two nominations for Collaboration of the Year and Favorite Song in the Rap/Hip Hop category. Roddy and DaBaby also pair up against each other for Favorite Male Artist, along with late rapper Juice WRLD.

Roddy’s #1 debut album, Please Excuse Me for Being Antisocial, is up for favorite album in the Rap/Hip Hop category. Meanwhile, his hit single “The Box” landed two nods for Favorite Song, in the Pop/Rock category as well as the Rap/Hip Hop category.

Roddy Ricch has a lot to celebrate this year, which he called his “golden year” just last week on Twitter. After his album debuted at #1 on the Billboard 200 Albums chart, the 21-year-old won a Grammy Award with the late Nipsey Hussle for “Racks in the Middle” in January.

Over the past few months, Roddy has been featured on number of hits, including Internet Money’s “Lemonade” remix, Cordae’s “Gifted,” Pop Smoke’s “The Woo” and more. 

The 2020 American Music Awards will air Sunday, Nov. 22 from 8 to 11 p.m. ET on ABC.
