Mike QuainGrammy-winning producer Rodney Jerkins wrote the popular 90’s single “The Boy Is Mine,” that sparked a 20-plus year comparison between Brandy and Monica.
The song was originally a solo for Brandy, who requested Monica to pair as a duet. Though they’e denied it since, there’s always been a competitive spirit between the two, who’ve exchanged shady comments in the media over the years.
Lately, fans have been anticipating that Brandy and Monica might go head-to-head in a Verzuz battle, created by Timbaland and Swizz Beats.
Brandy seems open to the idea, while Monica only wants to celebrate their hits. Yet despite Monica’s hesitancy, Jerkins said fans would love to see it.
“Well, absolutely I think it would be great, too,” he tells ABC Audio. “You know, fortunately, I’ve had hits on both sides so I’ll be able to root for both.”
He promises “no favorites, no favorites.”
