Rumors about J. Cole’s forthcoming album, ‘The Fall Off,’ heat up online

by

Suzi Pratt/WireImageJ. Cole fans are eagerly awaiting the release of his next album, The Fall Off.

With no official announcement, fans on social media assumed the “Climb Back” rapper would release the followup to his Lewis Street EP after Zane Lowe announced on his Apple Music show Tuesday that “something big” was in the works from an unidentified artist.  Though Lowe didn’t mention who the artist was, many fans on social media assumed it was J. Cole since the rapper has released his previous albums — Forest Hills Drive in 2014 and 2016’s 4 Your Eyez Only — on December 9th.

Others seemed more excited about Cole releasing a new album the same week as Kid Cudi‘s return to outer space for his new album, Man on the Moon 3: The End of Day, which drops Friday.  “If J Cole actually does drop tonight we could have The Fall Off and Kid Cudi’Man on the Moon 3 in the SAME week,” wrote one fan.

After seeing the frenzy on social media, Lowe took to Twitter to clear up rumors about J. Cole and confusion about what he said on his show.

“I said, we can’t tell who is releasing, why not assume its your favorite artist. It was a joke with the team. No mention of anyone specific,” tweeted Lowe. “And I will say, I am not referring to him.”

As of early Wednesday afternoon, J. Cole hadn’t released new music or addressed The Fall Off rumors.
