Kevin Winter/Getty Images via ABCCan you imagine Rihanna‘s “Work” sung by any other artist? Well, according to one of the song’s co-writers, R&B singer PARTYNEXTDOOR, the hit single was almost passed on to Alicia Keys.
“Her label didn’t care for Caribbean music at the time,” he tells The New York Times. A decision between either keeping the track with Drake, or giving it to Keys was up for debate, but eventually Rihanna’s team surrendered “when it was all that she could sing around the house,” he added.
“She fought for it,” said PARTYNEXTDOOR. “She said, ‘This is my family’s favorite song.'”
