by

NetflixShonda Rhimes has set her cast for her second Netflix project, Inventing Anna.

The limited series, which is inspired by the true story of how a young woman named Anna Delvey deceived dozens of Manhattanites into funding her fabulous lifestyle, will center around if Anna was New York’s biggest con woman or simply a new portrait of the American dream.

The series will star Julia Garner as Delvey; Anna Chlumsky as Vivian, the reporter covering the scandal in hopes of salvaging her career; Scandal‘s Katie Lowes as Rachel, Anna’s devout follower; Laverne Cox as Kacy Duke, a celebrity trainer and life coach; and Alexis Floyd as Neff; an aspiring filmmaker working as a hotel concierge who befriends Anna.

As previously reported, Shondaland and Netflix acquired the rights to adapt Jessica Pressler‘s New York Magazine article How Anna Delvey Tricked New York’s Party People.

Pressler’s viral article centered on Anna Sorokin, a young woman who scammed various of members of high society in New York City by claiming to be a German heiress, conning money out of banks, businesses and associates. She was ultimately charged with multiple counts of grand larceny and theft of services and is currently being held without bond in New York’s Rikers Island prison. Sorokin has plead not guilty to the charges.

A release date has yet to be set for Rhimes’ series.
