Snoop Dogg set to appear on ‘Red Table Talk’ to address Gayle King controversy

by

ABC/Kelsey McNealNext Wednesday, Snoop Dogg sits down with Jada Pinkett Smith and her two co-hosts on a special episode of Red Table Talk for an in-depth conversation about the culture of disrespect between black men and women, stemming from his controversial rant to Gayle King.

During an interview with WNBA champ Lisa Leslie in February, just days after Kobe Bryant‘s passing, King asked Leslie her thoughts on Bryant’s 2003 sexual assault case. Many believed the timing and intention of the question was uncalled for, expressing their views on social media, as did Snoop.

“Gayle King…out of pocket for that sh**. Way out of pocket. What do you gain from that? I swear to God we the worst. We the f***ing worst,” Snoop said in the clip. Snoop Dogg went on to question why King has yet to interview Harvey Weinstein, who faces up to 28 years in jail for the alleged rape and assault of two different women in Los Angeles in 2013, before calling her out of her name. “How dare you try to tarnish my motherf***ing homeboy’s reputation. Punk motherf***er. Respect the family and back off, b***h, before we come get you,” he said.

After a talk with his mother, Snoop publicly apologized to King for being disrespectful and acting, “in a derogatory manner based on emotions.” In the video, he said, “I didn’t mean for it to be like that. I was just expressing myself for a friend that wasn’t here to defend himself.”

Red Table Talk serves as a platform to share personal truth and unpack societal issues in the world today. The series is nominated for an NAACP Award for Outstanding Talk Series.
