Solange Knowles to be honored at Lena Horne Social Impact event

Solange Knowles will be the recipient of the inaugural Lena Horne Prize for Artists Creating Social Impact event on February 28, for supporting representation and justice while spreading inspiring messages. 

Taking place in New York City’s Town Hall venue, the event celebrates scholars, community advocates and music artists at the intersection of art and activism in honor of Horne, the late, legendary entertainer and civil rights activist. 

The ceremony will be followed by performances by Grammy-nominated artists RapsodyAndra DayBJ The Chicago KidTalib Kweli and more, all of whom use their platform to speak out about racial equality, body positivity, and police brutality, among other issues.

Billy PorterHarry BelafonteJudy Collins and Roxane Gay sit on the Lena Horne Prize advisory board. 

According to Essence magazine, Knowles announced a $100,000 gift to a nonprofit organization dear to her heart, and right in her hometown: Houston-based Project Row Houses, which works to empower people and enrich communities through art engagements and direct action. 

Tickets for the inaugural Lena Horne Prize for Artists Creating Social Impact event are available now. It takes place February 26-28.
