In celebration of the 50th anniversary of Soul Train, the Soul Train Awards will be held for the first time ever at the iconic Apollo Theater in New York City.

Following a virtual event in 2020, the show, which is scheduled for November 20, will be attended by a live audience. It will be taped for broadcast and will premiere Sunday, November 28, at 8 p.m. ET/PT on BET and BET Her.

The late Don Cornelius launched the weekly Soul Train television series in 1971, and the legacy of “the hippest trip in America” carries on with the annual awards show.

“Don Cornelius’ brilliant vision created a revolutionary show that became a cornerstone in American culture. Fifty years later, the Soul Train Awards continues to amplify his powerful message of Love, Peace & Soul to a global audience,” BET executive Connie Orlando says in a statement.

Adds Apollo executive producer Kamilah Forbes, “The Apollo is thrilled to partner with BET to host the Soul Train Awards, bringing together three iconic brands that represent Black culture and excellence under one roof. This is an occasion to celebrate, and we look forward to the incredible performances that will light up our stage during the Soul Train Awards.”

Nominations for the show will be announced at a later date.

In 2020, Tichina Arnold and Tisha Campbell from Martin returned to host the Soul Train Awards for a third year in a row.

Brandy was honored with the Soul Train Certified Award, and her “The Boy Is Mine” collaborator, Monica, received the Lady of Soul Award. Chris Brown led all performers with four awards, including Best R&B/Soul Male Artist.
