Courtesy of LifetimeSparkle is publicly airing her grievances with Erykah Badu and Taraji P. Henson, in the wake of their seemingly problematic comments regarding R. Kelly.
As previously reported, both the singer and actress recently came under fire after their remarks appeared to defend Kelly in spite of the renewed controversy plaguing his persona.
Monday, Sparkle spoke exclusively with TMZ about Badu’s and Henson’s comments to which she referred to as “disheartening.”
“We have to be very sensitive when it come to this issue, right now, because look there are girls who are still out here who won’t speak up because of people like [Badu] ,” the “Be Careful” vocalist explained.
“We now need to offer [Kelly] some tough love and some community love as a Black community, I will say. Because, we too often are very forgiving.”
Since publicly denouncing Kelly, Sparkle has stepped back into the limelight to share her testimony with a new single titled “We Are Ready.” The song is intended to serve as an anthem of empowerment for all women who have fought and survived abuse, whether it be domestic, physical or sexual, the singer’s personal website notes.
