SZA, Bruno Mars, Mary J. Blige among early NAACP Image Awards winners ahead of broadcast

ABC/Randy HolmesA slew of winners have already been announced prior to tonight’s telecast of the 49th NAACP Image Awards ceremony

In the Recording category, SZA was named the Outstanding New Artist honor. Bruno Mars scored the Outstanding Male Artist trophy and Mary J. Blige picked up the Outstanding Female Artist award. 

Bruno also earned the Outstanding Music Video/Visual Album and Outstanding Traditional Song awards for his hit track, “That’s What I Like.” 

Kendrick Lamar also won three NAACP Image Awards. His track “HUMBLE.” won for Outstanding Contemporary Song, while his latest disc DAMN. won the Outstanding Album award. 

The rapper, along with Rihanna, was also honored with the Outstanding Duo, Group or Collaboration trophy. RiRi is featured on Kendrick’s single, “LOYALTY.” 

The 49th NAACP Image Awards, hosted by black-ish star Anthony Anderson, airs tonight at 9 p.m. ET on TV One.
