T-Pain; DirectedByBANKQuincy Jones certainly had no problem calling out a slew of artists and celebrities in his shocking Vulture interview… and one of them has spoken out.
Quincy told Vulture that he “was not in favor of doing” his 2010 album Q: Soul Bossa Nostra, but finally agreed because the rappers featured on the disc “wanted to record something as a tribute” to him.
As for T-Pain’s contribution to that disc — he recorded a version of Michael Jackson’s “P.Y.T” — Quincy said, “T-Pain, man, he didn’t pay attention to the details.”
On Twitter, T-Pain has now responded to those comments, explaining that he didn’t want to be involved in the project either.
He writes, “For the record I told my managers (at the time) and I told @QuincyDJones in his face, ‘I don’t want to remake any of your past records because I know I’m gonna f*** it up. I’ll never be able to reach the great of MJ’ it took them hours to pump me up to even go in the booth.”
In another tweet, he continues, “And I still hate it when it came out of the booth. Then the song came out and it was even worse than it sounded in the studio. This is legit one of the reasons I don’t work with the managers I had anymore because if I said I was uncomfortable doing something they didn’t care.”
T-Pain then says in a final tweet, “It just seems like @QuincyDJones is pi**ed off at the whole world. I have nothing but respect for the guy so I don’t know why we didn’t hold the song or tell me exactly what he wanted when I kept taking the headphones off beggin for direction from the God.”
