TEXAS PRISONERS CONTRACTING COVID-19

by

More than 80 Texas state prisoners have died after contracting the virus, including men who were serving short sentences. As the cases of covid increased advocates called on the governor and parole board for early release. As many lockups became hotspots for covid that has killed more than 2,600 people in the state of Texas. Advocates argued that a smaller prison population would make it easier for inmates to social distance, and to better protect prison employees who can spread the virus to their families and communities. Though some states have moves to release more parole eligible prisoners or those nearing the end of their sentences, Texas practices have gone unchanged.
