On Tuesday, the comedian saluted her artsy, activist and lyricist boyfriend for his 2002 album, Electric Circus.
“I like that I am in a relationship with a man the has real history in their art,” wrote Haddish on Instagram, sharing an article about the album’s anniversary. “@Common I find it inspiring, sexy and admirable. I love being in the presence of someone that is doing what they love and evolving like Pokemon.”
Common released his fifth studio album, Electric Circus on Dec. 10th, 2002. It peaked at #9 on Billboard’s top R&B/Hip-Hop albums chart. Inspired by rock acts such as Pink Floyd and Jimi Hendrix, the project features Common rapping about social justice and abuse over tracks produced by The Neptunes and The Soulquarians, among others.
The Soulquarians — who also worked on Common’s Like Water for Chocolate — is star-studded collective of musicians, including The Roots‘ Questlove, Jay Dee of Slum Village, keyboardist James Poyser, and bassist Pino Palladino.
Electric Circus also features production from late and legendary hip-hop producer J Dilla and a group of talented Neo-soul lyricists such as Prince, Jill Scott, Mary J. Blige, Bilal and Cee-Lo Green, as well as Common’s ex, Erykah Badu.
Common recently raved about his new woman Haddish and their matching shaved-head looks on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, after Haddish shaved her head this summer.
“I guess she was trying to get as close to me as possible with the baldy look,” Common joked last Friday. “She’s a really incredible human being, and the more I get to know her, I just see how dynamic she is as a person.”
