Iamge Courtesy of LifetimeOver the weekend, Lifetime aired its controversial Aaliyah: The Princess of R&B biopic. Soon after the movie’s premiere, the network received backlash from fans and celebrities like Timbaland, who questioned the film’s overall accuracy and the filmmakers’ casting decisions.

The outspoken producer, who was instrumental in the late Aaliyah‘s career, posted several videos on Instagram, in which he expressed his disapproval of the made-for-TV project, which he referred to as “bullsh**.”

“This is why people should never remake movies. Bullsh** happens,” he said in the clip, though the Lifetime biopic was not a remake. “Now you have to deal with the consequences from me, Timbo, and the family…”

After posting several memes and urging fans not to tune in, the producer hinted that he will soon address the film on a larger scale: “I’ve think I’ve made my point on how I feel,” he wrote in one Instagram caption. “Fans ain’t sh** we can do, what’s done is done, but what we can do is not feed into no more. I will speak on it loud and clear !!!!!!!! I will announce the time and place soon !!!!!!! Yes the whole world will hear!!!!!!stay tuned.”

Meanwhile, the movie’s executive producer Wendy Williams addressed the backlash on her daytime talk show as apart of her Hot Topics segment. “I see my Aaliyah movie broke the Internet this weekend. Everybody got an opinion,” she said on Monday’s show.  “Well I must tell you, whether you loved or hate, you watched. It was the second-highest rated movie on all of cable this year so far.”
