Photo Credit: Carrington ScottTinashe is getting used to handling her music videos herself. Last month she debuted her first self-directed clip — for the title track of her debut album, Aquarius. Now, the singer has released a lengthy video for another song from the album, “Bated Breath.”
“I don’t like to sit around waiting for people to do things for me,” she tells W magazine. “So when I know my label’s not going to produce music videos, I’ll either make them myself or I’ll find people that I think are cool and reach out to them directly. I’m like, ‘F**k it. I’ll just do it.'”
The singer recruited videographer Stephen Garnett to help film the nine-minute clip, posted on YouTube, which was shot in the Mojave Desert. “It was pretty DIY,” she recalled of the five-hour shoot. “It wasn’t a big production or anything.”
As to forthcoming products, the singer says: “I love directing, I’d love to direct for other people in the future.”
