Tinashe says Joyride is about taking control and manifesting your own destiny

by

Dennis LeupoldFour years after the release of her debut album Aquarius, Tinashe‘s long-awaited sophomore album Joyride is finally here.

The singer/dancer tells ABC Radio that the “whole concept of the album is really about me taking control.”

She adds that the disc is also about “manifesting your own destiny…creating your own world, [like a] Joyride universe.”

The album’s theme is apparent by its futuristic-looking cover art, which shows Tinashe sporting a shaved head, and wearing a cream-colored, see-through dress with two long spikes attached to her shoulders and a wire and metal accessory draped down her back.

“I guess that was sort of a visual representation of me creating myself,” she explains.

Joyride features guest vocals from artists like Offset, Ty Dolla $ignFrench Montana, Future and Swedish electronic group Little Dragon

When it came to working with Ty Dolla and French on the music video for her track “Me So Bad,” she describes the rappers as “really awesome” and “some of my favorite people that I’ve worked with.”

“They’re both just really down to earth. Easy to work with. Chill. Nice people,” she adds.

As for the overall experience filming the visual for “Me So Bad,” Tinashe says, “It was fun. It was good vibes on set. For sure.”

Joyride is available to purchase everywhere now.
