BET NetworksAfter four illustrious seasons, Gabrielle Union is officially retiring her character of Mary Jane Paul tonight, on the series finale of Being Mary Jane.
Ahead of the two-hour BET movie, which will serve as the show’s final episode, Union took to Instagramto pay homage to her character and the amazing journey she’s had portraying the unrelenting journalist.
“In Spring of 2012, I got the opportunity of a lifetime – Pauletta “Mary Jane” Patterson came into my life,” Union captioned her post, which showed her walking through the set in a glittery beige gown.
“In many ways we shared similar struggles and triumphs, loves and losses, and especially the penchant for epic reads.”
She continued, “Finally, so many of us saw our beautifully complicated and rich lives as we tuned into @BETMaryJane. We’ve laughed, cried, cried some more, screamed, rolled our eyes, sucked our teeth, walked away and come back in frustration… whether we acknowledged it or rejected it, she at times was us, and we were her.”
After asking fans to tune in to “see how it all ends,” the actress shared that she’s extremely moved by the ending of her beloved series.
“I will miss playing her, but more than that, I will miss our cast, Atlanta crew, LA writers and each and every fan who watched our show,” she wrote. “We are grateful and we are humbled. We [love] yall and we never took you for granted.”
“We apologize for the delay but we are here and ready to snatch wigs and moisturize elbows,” she added. “Get ready!”
The two-hour finale of Being Mary Jane, also starring Morris Chestnut, Lisa Vidal, Richard Roundtree, Richard Brooks, BJ Britt, and Raven Goodwin, airs April 23 at 8 p.m. ET on BET.
