Tyrese calls his ex-wife’s child abuse claims hurtful lies

by

ABC/Jeff Neira Tyrese Gibson is addressing the allegations, made by his ex-wife Norma Mitchelle Gibson, that he physically hurt their ten-year old daughter, Shayla.

“After nine years of working extremely hard to co-parent our child, I am disappointed to learn that the mother of my daughter has made gross and false accusations against my character in a shameful attempt to ruin our co-parenting efforts,” he told People in a statement.

He continued: “There is nothing I love more in this world than my daughter and I would never do anything to harm her well-being or happiness. Co-parenting is tough and it’s unfortunate when your partner tries to sabotage the situation with hurtful lies and irrational behavior.”

Prior to his statement, Tyrese shared a series of photos on Instagram where, in addition to denying the abuse claims, he called his ex a “bitter, resentful,” and mean-spirited woman.

“Norma I know you can see this, I’m sorry I got re-married, I’m sorry we didn’t work out I’m sorry you haven’t been able to find another man since we separated,” he wrote in part. “I see the attacks just won’t stop so I believe this too will pass and God and the courts will reveal the truth…..”

Tyrese’s response comes after a court granted Norma temporary physical and legal custody of Shayla, pending a hearing scheduled for October 2.

The Fast & Furious actor was also ordered to stay 100 yards away from the two after court documents — obtained by People — revealed that Norma had accused Tyrese of hitting Shalya “between 12 and 16 times,” and hitting Norma “a number of times in the past.”

Tyrese was married to Norma from 2007 to 2009. The singer married his new wife, Samantha Lee, this year on Valentine’s Day.
