Usher Covers “Nylon Guys,” Says He Doesn’t Care About Fans’ Musical Criticism

A doe-eyed Usher graces the June/July cover of Nylon Guys, but he has a harsh message for his overly critical fans.

Following the release of his new single, “Good Kisser,” the singer tells the publication how he feels about people’s reaction to his music.

“In all honesty, I give one sh**,” he says. “I do hear them — that’s why I say one sh**. I do give a sh**, but not two sh**s. Two sh**s is a lot. I care enough to make sure they understand that I’m making it for them, but I’ve got to be true to where I am.”

While it’s clear Usher isn’t worried about his detractors, he acknowledged Diddy, who helped mentor him when he was a teenager. “Artist development made me who I am. Somebody took the time to help me find what it is that works for me as an entertainer and who I am as a music maker,” he says.

The singer also reveals that he’s excited for his role as Sugar Ray Leonard in the upcoming biopic Hands of Stone. “I wanted to show a different side of who I am, not just throw my acting chops toward a romantic comedy,” he says. “When I played Sugar Ray, everything was Sugar Ray. Every day I trained like a boxer. I ate like a boxer. I moved like a boxer.”

The issue is available on newsstands now.
