Axelle/Bauer-Griffin/FilmMagicProduction on Rihanna’s new film Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets began January 5 in France, and the director is already gushing about her performance.
Luc Besson posted a photo on Instagram of himself with Rihanna and commented, “Rihanna blows me away. She is a natural born actress… Thank you RiRi for this wonderful week!”
Besson, director of the films The Fifth Element and Nikita, announced her casting in November when he wrote on Instagram, “RIHANNA is in VALERIAN!!!!! ….and she has a big part!! I’m Sooo excited!!” Details about her character have not been revealed.
The time travel sci-fi adventure set on a space station also stars Dane DeHaan, Cara Delevingne, Clive Owen, Ethan Hawke and Herbie Hancock. The film is based on the French comics series Valérian and Laureline, and is scheduled to open July 21, 2017.
Rihanna already has a full plate for early 2016, as her Anti World Tour kicks off February 26 in San Diego, California with Travis Scott opening.
