ABC/Eddy ChenThe second season of John Legend‘s hit WGN television series, Underground, is underway, and Legend has released a new song that he wrote for the show.
Titled “In America,” the track — which debuted during the program’s March 8 premiere — features John singing about making it in America on a dream, but having to fight through a number of injustices in reality.
“All the money I make/All these chances I take/Just paying my rent in America/Won’t stand around/Watch it go down,” he sings.
“In America” also complements the story in Underground, especially for the new season, which will center around a group of slaves, dubbed the Macon 7, and the aftermath of their 1857 attempt to escape to freedom from their Georgia plantation.
Underground airs Wednesdays at 10 p.m. ET.
