Robin HarperPresident Barack Obama just gave a major shout-out to Beyoncé, confirming what her fans already know: the music superstar owns the world.
Addressing graduates at Howard University Saturday, Obama referenced the rise of hip-hop culture, mentioning Beyoncé and also Gray’s Anatomy and Scandal creator Shonda Rhimes as prime examples of outstanding achievement in African-American culture.
“A lot of folks didn’t even think blacks had the tools to be a quarterback,” said the president. “When I was a graduate, the main black hero on TV was Mr. T. Rap and hip-hop were counter-culture. Now, Shonda Rhimes owns Thursday night and Beyoncé runs the world.”
Obama also addressed racial inequality, as well as the advancement of African-Americans within the last 30 years, during his speech, which you can watch now on YouTube.
