Xscape shocks fans with reunion announcement

The four-piece — Kandi BurrussTameka “Tiny” Harris and Tamika and LaTocha Scott — made the announcement on social media Tuesday, writing on Instagram, “The ladies of Xscape are back,” along with a video of an throwback performance of their classic hit “Understanding.” 

LaTocha also confirmed the exciting news for fans on her own Instagram account, writing, “It’s official ‘Xscape Is Back’ Thanks to all of our fans for your prayers & your loyalty.” 

After being discovered by Jermaine Dupri and subsequently signed to the producer’s So So Def label, Xscape rose to fame in during the 1990s with their debut album, Hummin’ Comin’ at ‘Cha and hits singles such as “Who Can I Run To,” “The Arms of the One Who Loves You,” “My Little Secret” and “Do You Want To.” 

Following the release of their third album, Traces of My Lipstick, in 1998, LaTocha exited the group to pursue a solo music career. She eventually returned to the group, which went on a hiatus until 2005.  

Kandi, LaTocha and Tiny later became household names via reality television: LaTocha signed on to star in the second season of TVOne’s R&B Divas: Atlanta; Kandi became a cast member of Bravo’s hit show The Real Housewives of Atlanta;and Tiny starred in BET’s Tiny & Toya, VH1’s Tiny and Shekinah’s Weave Trip and T.I. and Tiny: The Family Hustle, with her hubby, rapper T.I.
