Xscape to receive ASCAP Golden Note Award next month

by

DeWayne Rogers/Monami EntertainmentLegendary R&B group Xscape will be presented with the prestigious ASCAP Golden Note Award at the 31st annual ASCAP Rhythm & Soul Music Awards on Thursday, June 21 in Los Angeles.

All four members of the group — Kandi BurrussTameka “Tiny” CottleTamika Scott and LaTocha Scott — are expected to appear at the event, held annually by the performing rights organization ASCAP.

ASCAP President and legendary songwriter Paul Williams says in a statement, “Xscape knocked us all out in the 90s with their powerful vocal harmonies on singles like, ‘Just Kickin’ It’ and ‘Understanding,’ and surprised absolutely no one as they went on to become one of the most prolific female R&B groups of all time.”

“Decades later, all four members have gone on to individuals success in music and on screen, and we are thrilled to recognize their achievements with the ASCAP Golden Note Award,” Williams adds.

Xscape staged a comeback last year with their first-ever headlining tour and their first performance together in over 18 years at the BET Awards.

They also released a six-song disc titled Here For It in March of this year, but without Kandi.

You can catch Xscape live at this year’s Essence Festival in July.

Tickets are on sale now.
