You can’t take Khalid’s Youth away on new collaboration with pop star Shawn Mendes

by

ABC/Randy HolmesKhalid‘s latest feature is on pop singer-songwriter Shawn Mendes‘ new song, “Youth.”

The anthem appears on Mendes’ upcoming self-titled album.

“Youth” touches on “waking up to headlines” and facing heartbreaking devastation, but not allowing the pain to turn into hate.

During a listening session in New York City not long ago, Shawn told journalists that the song was inspired, in part, by the 2017 bombing at an Ariana Grande concert in Manchester, England that killed 22 people.

“You can’t take my youth away/This soul of mine will never break/As long as I wake up today/You can’t take my youth away,” Shawn and Khalid sing on the chorus.

You can hear Khalid’s voice on another recent release: “OTW,” with 6lack and Ty Dolla $ign

He also makes a cameo appearance in Ella Mai‘s music video for her hit single, “Boo’d Up.”

Khalid’s up for five Billboard Music Award trophies, including one for Top New Artist.

The 2018 Billboard Music Awards air May 20 on NBC, live from Las Vegas.
