Gospel music superstar Kirk Franklin has announced that he’s boycotting Christian network TBN, the DOVE Awards, and the Gospel Music Association because a portion of his DOVE Awards’ acceptance speech in which he advocated for racial justice and reconciliation was edited out of the broadcast.
“I am aware that the word boycott often has a negative connotation and finality to it, but my goal will forever be reconciliation as well as accountability” Franklin said. “It is important for those in charge to be informed. Not only did they edit my speech, they edited the African American experience.”
Franklin’s mentioning the killing of Atatiana Jefferson by a Ft. Worth police officer was edited out of this year’s awards show broadcast and in 2016 his mentioning of Philando Castile and Walter Scott who were also killed by police was also edited out of the DOVE Awards broadcast.
