Happy Birthday Frankie Beverly [VIDEO]

by

Frankie Beverly was born (Howard Beverly) on this day in 1946 in Philadelphia, PA. He started out singing gospel music as a a youngster. As a teenager he formed the group called The Blenders. That group didn’t last long but later he started a group called The Butlers. That group the was later discovered by the legendary producer Kenny Gamble. The Butlers didn’t fit in with the Philly sounds so they moved to San Francisco to make a name for themselves.  In the early 70’s Frankie changed the groups named to Raw Soul. Then the group caught the attention of Marvin Gaye’s sister-in-law.

Motown legend Marvin Gaye used Raw Soul as an opening act for many of his shows, in 1976 then convinced Frankie Beverly to change the name of the group one last time to MAZE.

Happy 69th Birthday Frankie!
