The Texas State Senate passed the Sandra Bland Act this week. Senate Bill 1849 will make it easier for people with mental illness or an intellectual disability to post a personal bond. In the event of a death in a Texas jail an independent law enforcement agency will conduct the investigation.
I’m not sure how to feel about this news. First you must assume that Sandra Bland did in fact commit suicide. Her family won a $1.9 million dollar settlement for her death in 2016.
