Whitney Elizabeth Houston was born this day in 1963. It is still hard to believe that she is gone.

Check out a few facts about Whitney Houston’s early life and career that  you may not have known:

Her father served in the Army
Her father gave her the nickname “Nippy”
Whitney learned to play the piano in church
Whitney attended Catholic girls school (Mount Saint Dominic Academy)
She spend most of her childhood touring nightclubs with her mother Cissy
Her first recording was a duet with Teddy Pendergrass “Hold Me”, was on Teddy’s “Love Language” album and later her debut album
Her (1985) album Whitney Houston became the best-selling debut album by a woman
Actor Robert DeNiro had a huge crush on her in the late 1980’s, he reportedly said, she was the sexiest woman he had ever seen

When you hear her voice it’s captivating, full of her God-given talent, her spirit and emotion, she put her heart and soul into every note she delivered. Whitney has inspired so many in fact, she showed young girls that a voice is what moves people and it is that voice that make her music great.
