Joan Johnson, The Queen Of Afro Sheen, Dead At 89

The woman who co-founded one of the most iconic hair brands for people of color has died. Joan Johnson was the visionary and creator behind Afro Sheen and Ultra Sheen, died Friday following complications from a 2005 car accident. Johnson started her company off with just a $250 investment with her husband. She was 89. Afro Sheen and Ultra Sheen was a staple in most black households for decades. Johnson Products Company was founded in 1954 and later became the first Black company to be traded on the New York Stock exchange in 1971.
