New Guidelines For COVID-19 Unemployment

Texas Gov Greg Abbott announced on Thursday The Texas Workforce Commission has issued new guidance for unemployment claimants; regarding eligibility for unemployment benefits if you choose not to return to work during the COVID-19 Pandemic.  During the COVID-19 emergency, the following reasons would be granted if individual refused suitable work.

Reason for refusal:

At High Risk: People 65 years or older can get very sick from COVID-19

Household member at high risk: 65 years or older can get very sick from COVID-19

Diagnosed with COVID-19: The individual has tested positive by an source authorized by the State of Texas and has not recovered

Family member with COVID-19: That includes anybody in the household has tested positive by an source authorized by the State

Quarantined: Individual is currently in a 14-day quarantine due to close contact with COVID-19.

Child care: Your child’s school is closed and there is no alternative child care is available.

Each unemployment insurance claim is currently evaluated on a case by case basis.
