Last night, Lifetime and A & E celebrated the 40th anniversary of Janet Jackson’s first album release with the first of a two-night documentary.  The docu-series enititled “Janet’ was five years in the making as camera crews following the singer’s journey. We learned a lot in the first night about the early years of Ms. Jackson.  A few highlights revealed that Janet never liked any of her first albums, and all of the racism she and her family faced when they first moved to Los Angeles in the 1970’s. Janet said that many times growing up in the famous family, she didn’t know where she fit in. Her brother Randy Jackson is featured and he tells the story of David Bowie attending one of the Jackson parties where he offered him and a young Michael drugs, “I guess to get away from everyone, he was looking for a little room,” recalls Jackson. “So Bowie walks in and … he offered us some of what he was doing to get high…We just looked at each other. We were like, ‘No.’ We didn’t know what it was, but it was like, ‘Nah, no thank you.’” Elsewhere in the documentary,  Janet’s self-titled documentary airs on Lifetime and A&E tonight January 28th at 7 p.m. CST.  Janet Jackson is a warrior!!!
