It is every bit as frightening as what Tyre’s family and law enforcement have said it is. The 29-year-old Black male was shown on the video being kicked, punched, pepper sprayed, and hit with a baton by the police on January 7. Tyre was eventually handcuffed, pressed up against a police car, and writhes in agony for about 20 minutes until becoming limp. He was transported to St. Francis Hospital due to a complaint of shortness of breath and died on January 10. Five Black Memphis police officers involved in the incident were fired last week and were charged with murder on Thursday, January 26. Never have we seen a swift response to police brutality and we hope this is a new trend in police accountability.
