Texas Crown Act Signed Into Law

by

While we were busy celebrating the Memorial Day Holiday Governor Greg Abbott signed into law House Bill 567, also now as the Crown Act. CROWN stands for Creating a Respectful and Open World For Natural Hair. The bill overwhelmingly passed the state House and Senate.  The bill’s author Rep Rhetta Bowers D-Rowlett thanked Lt Gov Dan Patrick and Chairman Brian Hughes for swiftly advancing the bill.  Rep Bowers said, “I appreciate the vast bipartisan support shown by the Texas Legislator.”

The Crown Act aims to create a respectful environment for natural hair and would prohibit discrimination based on hair texture or protect hairstyle based on race.  The Crown Act will take effect on September 1, 2023. Texas has decided to be on the right side of history
