However, after 53 years, the reunion seemed to be even more profound than he had anticipated. The cameras captured when Franklin received an unexpected revelation about his biological father. The gospel icon made the heartfelt decision to transform this emotional footage into a short documentary. The 35-minute “Father’s Day: A Kirk Franklin Story” production coincides with the release of his upcoming album of the same title on October 6th. The moment also provided an opportunity for him to reestablish a connection with his estranged eldest son, Kerrion, who he had not seen in over a decade.
