A Moscow court announced it has extended the arrest of WNBA star Brittney Griner until May 19, according to the Russian state news agency Tass. Griner was detained at a Moscow airport in February after Russian authorities said a search of her luggage revealed vape cartridges. They were identified as containing oil derived from cannabis, which could carry a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison.(AP Photo/Rick Scuteri, File)

Brittney Griner’s wife, Cherelle Griner, shared how the WNBA star is doing while jailed in Russia.
On Thursday, Cherelle told “CBS Mornings” that her wife is experiencing the “absolute weakest moment in life right now” as she waits to face a hearing in Russia. Brittney is looking to appeal a nine-year sentence for drug possession after being detained in Russia in February and convicted in August. “She’s very afraid about being left and forgotten in Russia, or just completely used to the point of her detriment,” Cherelle said in the interview. Cherelle said that she had a phone conversation with her wife, who said she felt “like my life just doesn’t matter.” “Like, y’all don’t see the need to get me back home? Am I just nothing?,” Brittney was quoted as saying. Brittney will be back in court to appeal her sentence October 25, 2022. I have seen reports they are optimistic that she and American Paul Whelan could be returning by the end of the year.
