Dallas County District Attorney, John Creuzot announced Thursday that he will move the current penalty system away from “criminalizing poverty.” The plan is to curb high bail amounts for the poor and excessive jail time for low-level crimes. This will have an immediate impact on our communities of color and the poor. Many are arrested and jailed for crimes that will never be prosecuted. The move is to focus on more significant crimes and “we don’t want people to be in jail forever.”
