Legendary actress Cicely Tyson has died at the age of 96.
Cicely got her start as a model but then moved into acting by taking bit parts before getting starring roles in the 70s.
Throughout her career she always refused to play drug addicts or maids, roles that did not reinforce the strength, grace and beauty of Black women.
She’s known for projects like The Autobiography of Miss Jane Pittman, Sounder, The Help, How To Get Away With Murder, and many other works. Just this week her memoir, “Just As I Am” was released.
During her 40-year career, Cicely Tyson won two Emmy Awards, was nominated for an Oscar, received the Presidential Medal of Freedom, and other accolades. The Hollywood Queen was still working days before her death. Rest In Peace.
