South Dallas Activist Killed In Fire, Remembered

Bless her heart! A South Dallas woman is being remembered as a community activist after she was killed in a house fire. Security bars on her doors, that were designed to keep intruders out, are what prevented her from escaping a deadly fire as neighbors tried desperately to get her out! Reports also say that she was just released from the hospital. That is soooo sad!

According to a report, the house fire broke out at 2386 Blue Creek Drive off East Ledbetter Drive in South Dallas just before midnight. Officials say Johnnye T. Hughes, became trapped as her home burned.

Neighbors say they tried to help Hughes escape, the burglar bars on her porch were locked and she couldn’t find the key, which was normally hanging up on the porch. Read more from source.
