Remember the California teacher who dressed up as Common for Halloween using blackface?
The teacher is currently on administrative leave, which I think is to harsh a punishment for wanting to dress up like Common. He was in my opinion showing love to someone he admired, and wanted to share that with his class. Common said he would love to have a heart-to-heart with the teacher to let him know how detrimental the incident was.
Blackface lacks understanding of what black and brown people go through. I believe in forgiveness, understanding and compassion to the point I am willing to sit and talk with the individual.
Could you be as forgiving and compassionate as Common if someone had offended you?
